EC URGES OPERATORS TO CUT ROAMING TARIFFS
National.
Mobile operators in EU candidate-countries - Macedonia, Croatia and Turkey - must cut down the price of mobile phone calls made abroad, EU Information Society and Media Commissioner Viviane Reding said.
Upon Commissioner Reding's initiative few months ago, the European Commission came up with a new EU regulation to slash the unjustifiably high roaming charges within the European Union - for calls made abroad and also for calls received abroad.
Commissioner Reding said she will present a new decision in Brussels in November, which will give a boost to competition at the market of telecommunications services in the European Union.
"European telecommunication market is still monopolized by major national operators, and the new motion will cut the prices," information society commissioner Viviane Reding said.
