MACEDONIANS BIGGEST OPTIMISTS

Macedonian citizens have the most positive image about the European Union among candidate-states, read results of the Eurobarometer survey, which included Macedonia for the first time this year.
According to the results, presented Friday by the European Commission Delegation to Skopje, three of four Macedonians have a positive opinion about the EU (75 percent), only five percent have a negative image, while 18 percent have a neutral stance.
Regarding the public opinion in all 27 Union members in the next 50 years, Eurobarometer determines that Macedonia take first spot according to the number of citizens who look at EU's future with optimism.
Two-thirds of Macedonians (66 percent) say they are satisfied from their life, which is the same average as in the new EU members. A significant number of Macedonians (44 percent) expect an improvement in their life in the next 12 months. Individual optimism related to improvement of the family's financial situation among Macedonians polled encompasses 33 percent, while the EU average is 27 percent.
Most of Macedonian citizens (91 percent) believe that the situation with unemployment is worse than the average of EU countries. This is followed by dissatisfaction in the area of living costs (89 percent), social aid (87 percent) and living quality (85 percent).
Unemployment is the problem number one for Macedonian citizens (72 percent), followed by the economic state (52 percent) and crime (42 percent).
Forty percent of Macedonians are inclined to trust the Government, while the EU average is 41 percent. Moreover, 32 percent of citizens trust the Parliament.
Pertaining to the positive significance of the EU, the most attractive is freedom to travel and study throughout the EU, whereas 67 percent of Macedonians prefer this significance.
A total of 75 percent of Macedonian citizens believe that the country's EU accession is a good thing, while 84 percent agree that EU membership would benefit the country.
The Eurobarometer survey assesses "Euro-climate" in Macedonia for the first time following the country's EU candidate status. It was implemented by TNS Brima, member of association "Gallup International".
