Foreign direct investments (FDIs) into Macedonia surged to $350.7 million in 2006, bringing an increase of $234.5 million comparing with the previous year.
According to State Statistical Office, the net inflow of largest foreign direct investments into the country amounting $315.2 million were made by developed countries of which $295.8 million are from the European Union countries and $1.2 million are from the EFTA countries.
The major direct investments in 2006 fueled in electricity, gas and water supply - $226.0 million; $50.5 million were invested in manufacturing. The share of these sectors in the overall foreign direct investments (FDIs) makes up 78.8% of the overall foreign direct investments (FDIs).
