Macedonian top officials confirmed they stand united in the commitment to preserve and defend the constitutional name and the international use of the same as it represents a fundamental element of the identity and dignity of the nation, an official announcement says.
The press release was issued after the coordination meeting on the name issue, attended by the President Branko Crvenkovski, Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski, Foreign Minister Antonio Miloshoski and the Special Envoy on the Name Issue Nikola Dimitrov.
The meeting was convoked ahead of the Macedonia-Greece talks scheduled for 1 November in New York. UN mediator Matthew Nimetz initiated the meeting.
"Macedonia will remain committed and will step up the efforts for overcoming the bilateral differences with Greece over the name with an aim to strengthen the good neighborly relations... and compatible interests of the two countries for a stabile and prosperous region," the announcement says.
