GREEK - BRITISH BATTLE OVER MACEDONIA
National.
Great Britain stood against Greece's bid to include a special item related to the name of Macedonia in a EU's document, Athens-based daily Kathimerini said.
Greece is putting strong efforts to persuade EU officials to incorporate a remark on the Athens-Skopje dispute over the name in the conclusions of the meeting of the Union's Foreign Ministers slated for Monday.
The suggestions for stepping up the cooperation between EU and Western Balkan's countries at the talks among the Permanent Representatives of the member-countries are also coming under strong opposition.
The text which official Athens seeks to incorporate in the document urges Skopje to push ahead with the efforts for cooperation with all neighbors and specifies that "no progress has been made on the name issue."
Great Britain ruled out the possibility of inclusion of a text with such content. The British Representative even accused his Greek counterpart of lying, claiming that substantial progress over the name was made in July.
The text will be reviewed again on Friday, Kathimerini said.
