NATO INVITATIONS ONLY FOR COUNTRIES THAT MEET THE STANDARDS
National.
Chiefs of diplomacies of NATO member countries on Friday confirmed there will be invitations for joining the Alliance at the Bucharest summit in 2008 for countries that meet NATO standards.
"At the Bucharest summit our leaders intend to invite those countries that meet NATO standards and that are able and want to contribute to Euro-Atlantic security and stability", says the final statement of the North Atlantic Council.
Ministers commended reform efforts that the three members of the Action Plan for membership - Macedonia, Croatia and Albania - make and called onto them to strengthen these efforts.
The member countries will review the enlargement in more detail in January, when the candidate countries from the Adriatic group should complete the last cycle of the Action Plan for membership.
According to diplomatic sources, at the Bucharest summit scheduled for 2-4 April, an invitation could be given either to Croatia only or to all three countries at once.
