OHRID SUMMER FEST SIGNS EUROPEAN DECLARATION

More than 25 festivals, the members of the World Association of Festivals, including the Ohrid summer signed Declaration on Intercultural Dialogue in Ljubljana on 8th January. The representatives of 17 countries undertook to spread and implement intercultural dialogue in Europe.
“With the participation of 300 delegates from EU countries and as a part of the official opening of the Year of Intercultural Dialogue, the Declaration started its path. From Slovenia, it will travel through hundreds of artistic festivals through Europe,” said Jean Figel, European Commissioner for Education, Culture and Youth and one of the initiators for signing of the declaration in Ljubljana.
The Declaration obliges European festivals to initiate a vital process and give visibility to cultural flows of the European art and culture and is a great step towards development of interculture.
The act of signing was organized in cooperation with the City of Ljubljana and the Ljubljana Festival. The Declaration is a project initiated by the European Association of Festivals uniting festivals from 38 mainly European countries.
The Ohrid Summer has been the member of the Association since 1994 after meeting strict and high membership criteria.
