US SUPPORTS MACEDONIA'S NATO ENTRANCE TOO
National.
The USA strongly supports Macedonia's membership in NATO, Macedonian Foreign Minister Antonio Milososki said today in Washington after meeting with the US State Secretary Condoleezza Rice.
"There is no other NATO member-country that supports more firmly membership in NATO of Macedonia and the whole Adriatic Charter Group," Milososki said as answering a journalist's question if he was offered any guarantees that US would stand behind the Macedonia's bid to receive an invitation for membership from the Alliance's Summit in Bucharest.
"This support coincides with our strategic relations with America... when we speak about Afghanistan, Iraq, and the regional issues," Voice of America cited Milososki as saying.
"We expect Athens to behave rationally," Milososki said referring to the possibility of Greece to use the right of veto to block Macedonia's membership in NATO. "We will do everything in our power; and I assume Washington would do the same; to prevent this, because the enlargement will be equal to success."
The Foreign Minister also stressed that as far as the implementation of reforms is concerned, Macedonia is fully qualified to join the Alliance.
MD: Macedonia should really use the US support while Bush is still on his post. We don't want to say that Bush is great, we all know he isn't but if Obama for example would win next year, it will be tough for us Macedonians. Obama seems to be a big philhellene.
