FIRST PASSPORT AT 110TH BIRTHDAY
National.
A 109-year-old Macedonian woman will finally be getting her first passport after it took decades for authorities to check how old she was. Maria Kostova from Stip, eastern Macedonia, was born on Feb. 7, 1898, but no birth certificate was ever issued, the Web site Ananova reported yesterday.
When she applied for a passport more than 20 years ago, passport authorities said they would have to look for her birth records. Ms. Kostova never heard back from them. Now officials say documents dating back to the end of the 19th century were recently found and they can finally confirm her birth-date.
She will receive her new passport this month as a 110th birthday present. "It's a nice surprise," Ms. Kostova said. "Now I just have to think of what holiday I can have so I can use it."
MD: The news is a bit old, but interesting, that's why we decided to post it after all, we don't know if she really got it on her birthday wednesday! Anyway, still a happy birthday to her!
