BIG EVENT AT MAKEDONIJA SQUARE FOR CYRILLIC ALPHABET

National.

Major happening will be held Monday at Makedonija Square for friends of the Cyrillic Alphabet. The event is part of project "As Long as I Write in Cyrillic, I Exist!", which aims to raise the conscience of all generations on the need of popularisation of Macedonian Cyrillic, its preservation, use and affirmation, and furthermore create large number of friends and supporters.

Several educative and fun contents are to be realised within the event, wherewith the use of Macedonian Cyrillic is to be popularized among the youngest and the adults. Theatre for Children and Youth is to perform "Macedonian Story", whereas "Zlatno Slavejce" choir will also entertain children along with Ivce Pivce. Later in the evening, "St. Zlata Meglenska" choir will perform, followed by "Makedonski Rozi" orchestra and vocal Andrijana Janevska, and Vlatko Stefanovski as special guest.

Special banners will be placed at the square, whereat visitors can leave their messages of support, as well as graffiti and signatures. "Microsoft" prepared special entertainment for the youngest, whereas "VIP" mobile operator provided the space for screening episodes from "Busava Azbuka" series.

The campaign started on April 23 and is to last until June 10. It has been initiated by "Idea Plus Communications" and MIA-Macedonian Information Agency, supported by the scientific and artistic public, institutions, business community and media.

Though created more than ten centuries ago by Ss. Cyril and Methodius, the creators of the Slav literacy, and through the dedication of their student St. Clement of Ohrid, the Cyrillic is slowly and unjustly being forgotten and loses its step with the Latin letter. This has been especially been noticed in new global spheres - IT, communication and advertising. Hence it came the incentive for the campaign, which will include more activities, aimed at raising the conscience for the rightful use of the Cyrillic.

Special website has been designed on this occasion(www.mojatakirilica.com.mk), whereat competition for creating proper Cyrillic computer fonts has been announced. The Cyrillic font has been placed on the website, with a free download. Three additional fonts are to be created by the end of campaign, which would also be placed and would be available for use. All events and news of all activities regarding the campaign will be regularly published and updated. The website has a children's corner, enabling them to learn the alphabet through games.
