MACEDONIAN OPPOSITION OFFICE ATTACKED
National.
The Gostivar office of Macedonia`s main Albanian opposition party were damaged overnight when attackers pelted it with stones.
Police said perpetrators, still unknown, had thrown stones at the building of the Democratic Union for Integration, DUI, and broken its windows.
The DUI called on the police to react and again accused Interior Minister Gordana Jankulovska of doing nothing to prevent violence against DUI members and property.
Friday's attack was the latest of several dozen violent incidents that have taken place since the start of campaigning for the June 1 parliamentary elections.
One man has been killed, several DUI headquarters have come under small-arms fire, and DUI leader Ali Ahmeti claims that he has been the target of an assassination attempt.
If it continues, the violence could seriously hamper the country’s bid to enter the EU and NATO, senior officials from these organisations have said.
Macedonia, already an EU candidate country, hopes to secure a firm date for the start of accession talks this autumn.
