FOUNDATION FOR NEW THEATRE IN VELES

Culture.

The seix-decade long needs and desires of Veles inhabitants to have their own theatre has come true. Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski lay the foundation of a new theatre building in the Youth Park in Veles on Tuesday, in a ceremony attended by a number of actors, directors and citizens.

The members of Jordan Hadzi Konstantinov Dzinot National Theatre will soon leave the ruined building of the present 130-old theatre building to replace it with new, modern and suitable working conditions. Veles Theatre, despite difficulties it has faced in its work, has had 300 premieres and has performed 60,000 productions in its 60-year existence.

After an address of Jordan Vitanov, Director of the Veles Theatre and State Secretary of Culture Elizabeta Kancevska-Milevska, Prime Minister Gruevski also addressed the attendees. He said that it is never wasteful to invest in culture. Culture is what connects us to Europe and the world, so it is never ienough to invest in it. “We will continue to allot funds construction of such and similar buildings of culture,” Gruevski said in the ceremony.
