200 YEARS OLD STRUCTURES UNEARTHED IN TETOVO

Culture.

After a month and a half since the start of archaeological excavation in Tetovo Fortress (Tetovo Kale), a team of archaeologists has discovered structures built 200 years ago. According to Lulieta Abazi, the head of the project, six sections has been opened so far and they will start working on two more soon, mainly at the walls surrounding the Kale.

“There are many structures that were being built for more than 20 year by Rexhep Pasha, and later by his son Abduraman Pasha. Their wishes were to get independence from the Sultan and live safely in this area. A dining room with kitchen, a porch, a saraj with accompanying structures have always been defined. The water supply system and sewerage system have been examined as have two elevations on which a church and another so far unknown structure have been found, Abazi says.

Total 120 people are engaged in the works on Tetovo Kale, mostly archaeologists from Macedonia (20) and Kosovo and Albania (13) as well as students of archaeology and art history.
