MACEDONIA AND USA TO DEEPEN COOPERATION

National.

Macedonia and the United States are expected to sign a deal on furthering the bilateral cooperation.

The deal will be signed in Washington on May 7 by U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and Macedonian Foreign Minister Antonio Milososki.

No details on the agreement have been released thus far. Unofficial reports say the agreement will focus on strategic cooperation in the field of defense.

Milososki's visit to the United States and the signing of the deal was agreed on the sidelines of NATO summit in Bucharest last month. Macedonia failed to secure an invitation to join the Alliance, as Greece blocked the move because of the unresolved name row.

The deepening of the US-Macedonian cooperation is interpreted as a compensation for non-invitation to NATO membership.
