SMOKING BAN TO BE INTRODUCED NEXT YEAR
National.
Total smoking ban will be introduced into Macedonian bars and restaurants as of next year. Current regulations require bar and restaurant owners to allow smoking in only 50 percent of the space, which does not work in practice.
According to a recent survey, the general opinion is that even smokers do not like the smoke in enclosed spaces.
According to the new legislation, smokers caught with a cigarette in a bar or any other catering facility after January 1, 2010, will have to pay a fine of EUR 300, and the owner of the bar will have to pay EUR 2,000 to 4,000. Retailers selling cigarettes to children under the age of 16 will have to pay a fine in the same amount.
