A sculpture of the shy goddess of Venus Pudentis dating from the Roman period was excavated by researchers from the Skopje Museum at site Skupi near Skopje on Tuesday.
The Shy Venus, who is naked, created from white marble, in natural size, is supposed to date from the 2nd century A.D., set in a place built at the beginning of the 4th century. The sculpture is not damaged at all, with a dolphin by its legs, along with a bust of a boy next to it.
According to archaeologist Marina Oncevska-Todorovska, the sculpture is of great significance for Skupi, a testimony of the great achievements of Roman sculpture in this antique city.
