MORLEY'S RETRIAL POSTPONED
National.
The retrial of British citizen Nicholas Morley, which was to open today at Struga District Court, was postponed over defendant's absence.
In 2007, the British driver was given suspended sentence for causing death of two people by dangerous driving in the Gumball Rally.
Bitola-based Court of Appeals upheld the prosecutor's appeal and ordered a retrial.
Morley was taking part in the Gumball Rally, a pan-European race, when his Porsche 911 collided with the Volkswagen Golf of Vladimir Cepulyoski, 67, and his wife Margarita on May 2, killing them both.
The official forensics claimed Morley was driving at 161.6 kmph, while defense attorney claimed that he was driving at 75 kmph.
The Trial Chamber of Struga Court is to decide whether Morley will be tried in absentia.
