EC TO ANNUL VISAS FOR MACEDONIA, SERBIA AND MONTENEGRO
National.
The European Commission plans to annul visas for citizens of Macedonia, Serbia and Montenegro, said Thursday in Brussels EC Vice-President Jacques Barrot, Responsible of Justice, Freedom and Security.
Barrot stated at a press conference that the EC would propose a visa-free regime for the three countries as of the beginning of 2010.
Enlargement Commissioner Olli Rehn will officially present the proposal for the visa annulment in Strasbourg on July 14.
"Rehn will announce the joyful news", stressed Barrot, adding that Macedonia, Serbia and Montenegro have invested efforts in meeting EU prerequisites, such as document security, biometric passports, strengthening of border controls and fight against corruption.
Moreover, Barrot said Albania and Bosnia&Herzegovina have still not met conditions for a visa-free regime.
