MACEDONIA MARKS DAY OF REVOLUTIONARY FIGHT

National.

The Republic of Macedonia marked the Day of Revolutionary Fight for the first time yesterday.

On the occasion, the state award "October 23" for achievements in science, culture, education, protection of state interests and promotion of state priorities, values and cultural heritage were presented at the Macedonian Parliament.

This year the award went to Dr. Tanas Vrazinovski - ethnologist and Prof. Dr. Tahir Zajazi for achievements in the spheres of science and education, and academician Gane Todorovski for achievements in culture. Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski attended the award presentation ceremony.

On October 23, 1893 at the house of Ivan Hadzi Nikolov in Solun, Hristo Tatarchev, Dame Gruev, Petar Pop Arsov, Anton Dimitrov and Hristo Botandziev established the Macedonian Revolutionary Committee, which later on became the Internal Macedonian Revolutionary Organization (VMRO) or Internal Macedono-Adrianople Revolutionary Organization (VMORO). The organization was fighting for Macedonia's liberation with own forces without any help from outsiders.

The establishing of VMRO marked the beginning of Macedonian revolutionary movement, which after the Ilinden Uprising in 1903, Krusevo Republic and National Liberation War, resulted in creating a modern, independent Macedonian state.

Absurd?
How about the following qualitatives? New Zeeland, Nederlands (= Low Lands), Great Britain, South Korea, Nova Scotia, New England, Nouvelle Caledonie, New Mexico?...
Does ‘United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland’ sound absurd? or ‘United States of America’? On the contrary!
Well… New Macedonia sounds very respectable (shame if the Greeks disagree).

We can accept Republic of New Macedonia only when greece will accept Republic of New Greece. Republic of New Greece sounds very respectable .

Must you always follow what the Greeks do? C'mon!
No one disputes the rights over 'Greece'. It is a question of differentiation between Greek Macedonia and the New Macedonia. Do you accept that the Greek borders include Macedonia and its (Greek) Macedonian population?

Easier thing is to change a region name than country name. You can change the name of Macedonia region but we can't change name of our country that belongs to us for thousands of years and represents our identity.

No one wants to change it – not even Athens, just to distinguish it from (Greek) Macedonia. Unlike you, many academics & politicians in Skopje know that FYR Macedonia has a young history and that its roots are ‘Slavic’ – just like you, they wish to keep the name and I agree with them.
Historically, there is no evidence for a ‘Macedonian country’ or significant usage of the name after the Hellenic empire of Alexander the Great. Only a few Greek men of letters and priests between 17th and 19th centuries from Serres, Thessaloniki, Kastoria, Veria, Vodena, even Ioannina… described themselves as ‘Makedon’, ‘Makedonas’ or ‘ek Makedonias’. You need to understand their Greek language to read them.
Of course the research is unfinished.
