PROBISTIP TO BE RENAMED INTO ALEXANDRIA?
The non Governmental Organization "Macedonian Civilization" is asking every city in Macedonia to have at least two large structures, streets, boulevards etc that will carry the name of Alexander the Great and Philip II, the Macedonian.
Signature for their initiative will be asked of the new Parliament as well as all City Mayors.
Macedonians can support this initiative by putting their signatures as part of a petition to be announced later this week at different locations accross Macedonia. This initiative by the MC was started yesterday. The goal of the organization is to rename at least one city in Macedonia to Alexandria, Philip and other Macedonian Historical figures.
There is no serious country in this world, that doesn't have a city called Alexandria. Every country who wishes to express any kind of heritage or calls on their roots, or just pays respect to history, has a city with this name. The United States has fifteen of them called Alexandria. 80 km south of Milan, there is a city called Alexandria as well. We are the only ones who doesn't have one, even though his heritage is ours. For example, we can call Alexandria the "Sun City" currently being built on Vodno, or the new city being built for young couples between Miladinovci and Sveti Nikole. Or, we can rename our youngest city, Probistip to Alexandria. If you ask us, Probistip is the perfect choice, because Alexander's gold mines were located in the mountains rising above Probistip, say representatives from the Macedonian Civilization.
MD: Very good idea!! This should have been done earlier, of course the Greeks will be starting making problems as soon as the town gets the name! :)
